The village, and what it does to the job
Aylesford is not one kind of property, which is what makes it interesting to work in. The old village around the High Street and the bridge is period stock, a good deal of it built from Kentish ragstone, with listed buildings and a conservation area, all of it sitting near the 12th century church. Push out towards Larkfield and Blue Bell Hill and it becomes ordinary post-war and modern estate housing, with the industrial estates in between.
Those are genuinely different installations. On the older stock the constraints are the building: solid ragstone and thick masonry walls that stop wireless signal far more effectively than people expect, limited routes to get a cable anywhere, and a frontage where what you fix to the wall matters because of the conservation area. On the newer estates none of that applies and the job is straightforward.
It is why we survey rather than quote over the phone. Two Aylesford addresses a mile apart can want completely different answers, and the postcode tells you nothing about which one you have.
Working in a conservation area
Conservation area status does not stop you having security. It changes where equipment goes and what it looks like from the street. Cameras sited to avoid a principal elevation, cable runs kept off visible faces, and equipment chosen so it reads as small and dark rather than as white plastic on ragstone, all make the difference between an installation people notice and one they do not.
Listed buildings are a further step and need consent for work affecting the fabric. We will tell you where that line falls on your property rather than drilling and hoping. It is worth saying that the answer is usually workable, and the properties where we have to think hardest are the ones that end up looking the best.
What we install locally
The same range as everywhere else we work, with the local mix leaning towards perimeter and driveway coverage on the rural edges and door entry on the flats.
- CCTV, wired where the building allows it and wireless where it genuinely does not
- Intruder alarms, wired and wireless, and takeovers of systems already there
- Access control and door entry, including apartment and communal entrances
- Electric gates and gate automation on driveways and yards
- TV aerials, satellite and audio visual work on the AV side
Being ten minutes away actually matters
Not for the installation, which takes as long as it takes wherever you are. It matters afterwards. Security systems need occasional attention, and the difference between an installer round the corner and one an hour away shows up two years later when something needs looking at.
It is also why we are straight about how far we will travel. We cover Maidstone, Medway, Canterbury, Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks, Dartford and Bromley regularly, and more widely across Kent and London. Beyond that we will say so rather than take a job we could not service properly.
Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Where in Aylesford are you based?
Unit 1, Yew Tree Industrial Estate, ME20 7ET. It is a working unit rather than a showroom, so ring before coming down and we will make sure somebody is there. For most jobs there is no need to visit us at all, because the survey happens at your property, which is where the useful conversation is anyway.
Can you fit CCTV on a period or ragstone property?
Yes, and Aylesford has plenty of both. The constraints are practical rather than prohibitive: solid walls block wireless signal, cable routes are limited, and on a conservation area frontage the siting matters. It usually means more thought at the survey and a wired system where a modern house might take wireless. What we will not do is drill a listed elevation without the consents being right.
Do you charge for a survey in Aylesford?
No. Estimates are free wherever we work, and Aylesford is on our doorstep. We look at the property, tell you what it genuinely needs and quote for that. If the honest answer is that you need less than you were expecting, that is what you will get told.
How quickly can you get to us?
Aylesford is our closest work, so quicker than almost anywhere else we cover. We work Monday to Saturday, 9 to 5, and we do not advertise a 24 hour call-out because we do not run one. Being local genuinely helps on the routine things, like getting back to service a system or sort a fault, which is where distance actually bites.
Do you work in Larkfield, Ditton and Blue Bell Hill too?
Yes, all of them, along with Maidstone and the villages around. They are all a few minutes from the unit. The housing changes noticeably across that area, from the older stock in the village to the estates at Larkfield, which is worth knowing because it changes what a system needs rather than just what it costs.
