Empty during the day changes what a system needs to do
Dartford is a commuter town and Ebbsfleet is faster still, with London reachable in under half an hour. The practical consequence for security is straightforward: a large share of the housing is unoccupied between about eight in the morning and six at night, and if something happens the occupier is not nearby.
That shifts what matters. Recording is the minimum and it only helps afterwards. What actually helps is knowing at the time, which means alerts to a phone and a live view you can check before deciding whether to ring somebody. The hard part is making those alerts trustworthy, because a system that notifies you thirty times a day is one you stop looking at, and then it notifies you about the one that mattered.
Getting that right is sensor placement and camera detection zones rather than equipment choice, and it is worth spending survey time on rather than adding cameras.
Old stock and new stock, side by side
Dartford has the older terraced and interwar housing you would expect of a town of its age, and then the very new development out towards Ebbsfleet, which is among the largest new-build areas in the county.
They are different installations. Older property means solid walls, limited cable routes and the rear access being the vulnerable side. New build means easy loft access and straightforward runs, with the constraint being that you often cannot get into a cavity without making good afterwards. Neither is difficult; they simply are not the same job.
Commercial and industrial
There is a substantial amount of commercial and distribution property around Dartford and along the river, and that work is different again. Entrances, loading bays, vehicle movements and the perimeter, rather than the inside of a building.
On sites with vehicle access, ANPR earns its place where you want a record of what came and went, or a barrier that opens for known vehicles. It needs a camera positioned and lensed specifically for plates at a point where vehicles slow, so it is a survey decision rather than something added afterwards.
Common questions
Frequently asked questions
We are out at work all day. What do you recommend?
Alerts you will actually trust, which is a design problem rather than an equipment one. A system that sends thirty notifications a day trains you to ignore it. Getting detection zones and sensor placement right so the alerts are meaningful is worth more than extra cameras, and it is the part we spend survey time on.
Do you cover Ebbsfleet, Greenhithe and Swanscombe?
Yes, along with Northfleet and Gravesend. The new-build development out that way is generally quick work because the access and cable routes exist. Tell us the address and we will confirm we cover it before arranging anything.
Can you install CCTV on a new build without damaging it?
Yes, and new builds are usually among the easier properties to work on. Loft access is good and cable routes exist. The one thing worth flagging is that getting into a cavity generally means making good afterwards, so it is better to agree the routes before starting than to discover a preference halfway through.
Do you do commercial and industrial sites?
Yes, and there is a lot of it around Dartford and along the river. Commercial work is a different exercise to domestic: the priorities are entrances, loading areas, vehicle movements and the perimeter. Where vehicle records matter, ANPR is worth discussing at survey rather than adding later.
How far is Dartford from you?
About forty minutes from Aylesford up the M20 and A2. Within range for installation and for coming back to service the system, which is the part worth checking with anybody quoting you.
