Why a survey rather than a phone quote
Because a price given over the phone is a price for a package, and a package cannot know where your property is actually weak. The number of cameras is the least useful thing to decide first. Where they need to look, what the light does after dark, whether a cable can reach and what is already covered by a neighbour's line of sight all change the answer, and none of them are visible from a phone call.
It is also the honest way to end up spending less. A survey regularly concludes that a property needs fewer devices than the owner expected, positioned better. That is a harder sale and a better outcome, and it is why we do not quote blind.
What we look at
The same walk round on a house or a commercial site, with different emphasis.
- How the property would actually be entered without being seen
- What is already there, what works and what has quietly failed
- Light levels after dark, which decide what a camera can do at all
- Cable routes and construction, which decide wired against wireless
- Outbuildings, gates, boundaries and anything away from the main building
- Who needs access to what, which is the access control question
- Any insurance or licence condition that names a grade or a category
What you get from it
A clear account of what the property needs and why, and a quote for that rather than for a catalogue. Where something is not needed, we say so and explain the reasoning, because the recommendation is more useful than the list.
Where an insurance policy, an HMO licence or a fire risk assessment names a requirement, the specification follows that rather than our preference. If nobody has told you what applies, we will tell you what would ordinarily be expected and where to confirm it, which is worth knowing before you buy rather than at claim time.
It is free, and there is no obligation
No charge for the survey or the estimate, and no expectation that you use us. If the outcome is that your existing system needs a service rather than replacing, that is what you will be told, and you are welcome to have somebody else do it.
We work this way because the alternative, pricing blind and hoping, produces the systems we spend a lot of our time being called out to fix.

Is the survey really free?
Yes, along with the estimate, and there is no obligation attached. We would rather look at a property and tell you it needs less than you thought than quote for a package that does not fit it. If you take the advice and use somebody else, that is fine.
How long does it take?
For a typical house, under an hour. A commercial site depends on size and how much is already installed, and a larger site with an existing system to assess can take considerably longer. We will tell you roughly what to expect when you book rather than turning up and disappearing for half a day.
Do I need to prepare anything?
Only what you have. Any documentation for an existing system, engineer codes if you have them, and anything an insurer, licence or fire risk assessment says about what is required. None of it is essential and its absence is normal, but each one makes the recommendation more precise.
Will you just try to sell me the biggest system?
No, and the survey is the reason we can avoid it. Once you have walked a property you can see which devices would actually do something and which are there to pad a quote. Telling somebody they need three cameras rather than eight is a smaller job and a customer who rings us again.
Do you survey commercial premises too?
Yes, and it matters more there because the questions are harder: entrances, loading areas, vehicle movements, staff access, insurance conditions and fire category all interact. On a commercial site the survey is where the sequencing gets decided, which is usually what keeps a project affordable.
