Cherry Picker Hire

Cherry picker hire in Maidstone

Maidstone is about fifteen minutes from our unit in Aylesford, which makes it one of the quickest towns for our van-mounted cherry picker to reach.

Close by, which matters for a cherry picker

Our cherry picker is a 12.5m Versalift built onto a Ford Transit, so it drives to Maidstone like any other van, along the A20 or the M20 from Aylesford. Nothing has to be delivered on a lorry and collected again afterwards.

That changes which jobs are worth doing with a platform. A sign, a blocked gutter or a light on the front of a building is often a short job, and when the machine is fifteen minutes away rather than a delivery slot away, a short job stays a short job.

It is the same machine described on our cherry picker hire page, with an IPAF-trained operator who carries out the work, or self-drive on production of a valid IPAF card.

Maidstone buildings and the right machine

Maidstone is the county town and its buildings vary a lot within a short distance. There are Victorian and Edwardian terraces close to the centre, newer estates further out, larger older houses on the approaches, villages and rural properties around the edge, and a great deal of commercial floorspace on the industrial estates.

A van-mounted platform suits most of that, because it works from a road, a drive or a car park and reaches the upper floors, gutters and rooflines where most of this work sits. Where a job needs more height than 12.5m, or the machine would have to cross a soft lawn or fit through a side gate to reach the back of a terrace, it is the wrong tool and we will say so when you enquire.

  • Shop signs and frontages in and around the town centre
  • Gutters and rooflines on terraced and semi-detached houses
  • Trees on larger and rural properties around the town
  • Lighting, signs and cameras on commercial units and yards, including CCTV for Maidstone businesses, which we fit ourselves
  • Maintenance and inspections on the upper floors of flats and offices

Working in the town centre

Much of central Maidstone, including the High Street and Week Street, is pedestrianised, with vehicle access restricted. Shopfront work there has to be arranged around those restrictions rather than assumed, so give us the exact address when you enquire.

Away from the pedestrianised streets, a cherry picker standing on a public road or pavement, or reaching over one, normally needs a highway licence first. Kent County Council is the highway authority for Maidstone's roads and licenses mobile elevating work platforms on them. Parking bays and loading restrictions can add a step of their own, which is another reason to tell us where the van will stand.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Are you based in Maidstone?

Close to it. Our unit is at Yew Tree Industrial Estate in Aylesford, about fifteen minutes from Maidstone town centre. We say Aylesford because that is where we genuinely are.

Do I need a licence to use a cherry picker on a road in Maidstone?

Usually, if the van stands on the road or pavement or the platform reaches over one. Kent County Council is the highway authority for Maidstone's roads and licenses mobile elevating work platforms on them. Working entirely from a private drive or car park does not normally need one.

Can you work in the pedestrianised town centre?

Vehicle access to the pedestrianised streets is restricted, so it depends on the street and the time of day. Give us the address and we will look at it before quoting, rather than promise something the restrictions will not allow.

Do you cover the villages around Maidstone?

Yes. On rural jobs the setup matters more than the distance: soft verges, narrow lanes and long drives decide where the van can stand, so tell us about the access when you enquire.

How quickly can you get to a Maidstone job?

Maidstone is among the quickest places for us to reach. We work Monday to Saturday, 9 to 5, and short-notice jobs are welcome.

Do I need an IPAF card?

Not for operated hire, where our IPAF-trained operator runs the machine. For self-drive hire you need a valid IPAF PAL card covering van-mounted booms, category 1b, and we ask to see it before delivery.
